If you’re looking to rent an apartment without roommates, you don’t need one with multiple bedrooms. But should you search for a one-bedroom apartment or a studio? When it comes to bathrooms, you might think that one bathroom is enough for one person. That’s often true, but some people who live alone have valid reasons for preferring two bathrooms (or even an extra half-bathroom).
Here’s some help on how to decide what type of apartment is best for you if you choose to live alone:
One-bedroom apartment vs. studio. The main reason to choose a studio over a one-bedroom apartment is the cost. Generally speaking, studios are smaller and rent for less than one-bedroom apartments in the same building. If you don’t need a lot of room either to display or store your belongings and you don’t mind the simpler layout, a studio may be the best choice for you. On the other hand, if you like the idea of having a room in addition to your bedroom and you need the space, look for a one-bedroom apartment – if you can afford it.
One bathroom vs. two bathrooms. One bathroom will do fine for most renters who live alone. But if you’re looking for a one-bedroom apartment, you might consider checking out some that have an additional bathroom. (To save on rent, consider an additional half-bathroom, which has a toilet and sink but no shower or bath.) When you have guests visit or stay the night, you’ll all enjoy more privacy by not sharing bathrooms. Also, having a second bathroom can come in handy if you have a problem with a toilet that can’t get repaired immediately.
