Spring Color Palettes for Your Apartment

Done with spring cleaning, and looking to really spruce up the old place? Maybe you’re feeling inspired by spring, and want things to look fresh and new for many months to come. Get your paint on with a spring color palette. Just don’t get too carried away or you’ll feel like you’re living in an Easter basket for the next several years.

Spring Renewal

BHG’s interior color scheme called “Spring Renewal” is more modest than you might expect, with slightly-less-than-bright shades. But that’s a good thing, considering you’re going to have to live with these walls and show them to your friends! The mix of colors comes from nature’s landscapes: overcast sky, earth tones, and a bit of vibrant green, hinting at the budding of new life. You can use their paint suggestions or approximate them with your own choices.

Escape Hues

This palette, called “Escape Hues” embodies one particular essence of spring: the sudden belief in summer. Again we see more blue than one might expect from spring colors, but the cooler hues calm down an otherwise exciting array. This palette is great for evoking the cooling breezes of the beach, the laidback happy feelings of long, leisurely afternoons.

Spring Hues

The color scheme “Spring Hues” from {design seed} offers more orange, if that’s what you’re longing for. Greens are present, but as a backdrop to the warmer tones reminiscent of daisies and sunshine. These colors would work very well in a kitchen—that is, if you want your kitchen to be cheery and energetic (and who doesn’t?). Bonus: you can choose your cut flowers to match your flower-inspired walls.

Lily pads

This particular palette puts me in mind of Monet, and for a pretty obvious reason: it’s modeled after some dreamy lily pads, with every shade from deep water to the light green of new growth, from darker green stem to the reflection of sky on lake top. Once you’ve connected this image to these colors, you won’t forget it. They’d make for an airy bathroom, filled with sunshine (real or imagined) and clean water.

Out of the Ordinary

Spring Color Palettes for Your Apartment

Popsugar has listed what will supposedly be the dominant color palettes for furniture in 2013—I’m not fond of any of them, as they seem designed to mix large number of unattractive tints with other unattractive tints they don’t match. However, if you want to be on the cutting edge of assumed style, try the last one, “Out of the Ordinary.” It’s vaguely spring-like, in that it has blue, yellow, and purple in Eastery hues (and frankly, I’d stick with those rather than subject myself to the tans they’re listed with).

Black, White, and Green

If you’d like to see some palette-ing in action, check out this scheme from HGTV called Black, White, and Green. The room sports a lot of green, and intense green at that, but tempers it with neutral black and white. Simple, classy, and yet utterly bold. It’s a spring energy that would look appropriate year-round.

Happy coloring! We’d love to see your color combinations–either here or on Facebook.
